Ryan: Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2016 Ford Edge, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Class II CURT trailer hitch receiver. Even though the hitch is mostly visible, it is going to blend in nicely. It's going to follow the edges of our back bumper and kind of towards to the shape of it.Now, this is a class II hitch, so it's going to have that inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver tube opening and a reinforced collar for extra strength. So, this is going to work perfect, especially if you already have those inch and a quarter accessories.
It's also going to have a half inch size pinhole, which keep in mind does not come included with the pin and clip. But if you need one, you can find it here at etrailer. It has a plate style safety chain openings, which the holes aren't huge. However, they do offer enough room to use just about any size hook. And I do like how the safety chain openings are kind of off to the side, that way we're not going to have any interference whatsoever with our pin and clip. Now, many of our customers ask if their automatic lift assist for the hatch will still work with the hitch in place.
The answer is yes. However, keep in mind, since we do have a hitch here impeding the sensor's view, it's going to be a little more sensitive. You might have to find that sweet spot to get it to work. Now, as far as our hitch's weight capacities go, it's going to have a 350 pound maximum gross tongue weight rating. That's going to be the amount of weight pushing down on our hitch. So, that's going to work perfect for those two, even three bike racks.
As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, it's going to be 3,500 pounds. That's going to be the amount of weight pulling on our hitch. So, anything you have on your trailer plus the weight of the trailer itself. Now, it is always a good idea to check with your Ford owner's manual to make sure your Edge can pull that much weight. And for those of you that do plan on doing a little bit of towing, I'd recommend picking up some trailing wiring, that way your trailer lights will work as you're pulling it down the road. Now I'm going to give you a couple of measurements.
You're going to use these to help figure out which hitch mounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of our receiver tube opening, that's going to be about 13 and a half inches. You're going to use that to figure out if you need to get a ball mount with either a drop or a rise. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of our rear bumper, it's going to be about four inches. So, any of those folding accessories you do have, you shouldn't have any problems with interfering with our bumper. Now, some of our customers said the install was a little tricky for them, but it's definitely doable and can be done. Speaking of which, let's go ahead and do it together now. To begin our install, we're going to need to lower our exhaust, but before we do that, it's a good idea to use a support strap, and we can run it from side to side. That way, we can kind of control how fast our exhaust will come down. Now, we're going to have two rubber isolator hangers that we're going to need to take off. They're going to look just like this, and we'll have one on each side of our muffler. Now, it does make it a little easier if you spray them down with some soapy water or some penetrating oil, just to help get them off. Take a pry bar and work that isolator off of our muffler. Now, do the same thing for the other one on the other side. With our isolator hangers removed, we can loosen up our strap to lower our exhaust a little bit, to give us some room to work. Now, we're going to need to remove our side underbody panels. To do that, we're going to remove these two 10 millimeter fasteners. And if we come closer to the edge, we're going to have two more fasteners that I'm going to remove with a 7/32nds bit. The other side's set up the exact same way. So, once we have this one down, we'll repeat it over there. We're also going to remove this plastic center panel, and that's held in place by six fasteners here. I'll take those out using a 7/32nds socket. And here in the middle, we're also going to have one 10 millimeter nut that we need to take off. We're going to grab our center section panel and remove it from the vehicle. Now we can work on trimming our panel. Now, we're going to have
