Otanewainuku Trig Loop Track is very close to Te Puke. This is a loop trail, so there’s no need to walk back the same way — you can choose either direction to go up or come down. The whole track takes a bit over an hour to complete.
It’s one of my favourite routes because it has a good amount of elevation, mostly dirt paths, and some fun sections where you weave through trees. It’s interesting all the way and never feels boring. There are also many beautiful tall trees along the track, and you can even take a break sitting on some of the large tree trunks.
Make sure to wear hiking shoes and bring enough water.
