About the Speakers
Marko Demantowsky (Member PHW Executive Board | PHW Central Editorial Office)
Marko Demantowsky, PhD (*1970), holds the Chair of Public History at the Faculty Center for Transdisciplinary Historical and Cultural Studies at University of Vienna. Previously he was full professor for modern history and history education in Basel. Prior to this, he was assistant professor for history education in Bochum and interim professor in Jena and Siegen. Research assistant at the universities of Leipzig, Dortmund and Münster.
Marko Demantowsky has founded Public History Weekly in 2013.
His curent main research interests focus on a digitally based ethnology and history of Austrian places of remembrance of national relevance; the digital transformation of historiographic and public-historic practice; and the history and theory of Public History in the European 18th century.
Herbert Justnik (Volkskundemuseum)
Herbert Justnik (*1974) works as a curator and cultural scientist. He works with various cultural institutions (Wien Museum, Albertina Vienna, Filmarchiv Austria, Stadtmuseum Graz), as well as in art, culture and science education in Viennese institutions and projects. Since 2006, he is at the Volkskundemuseum Vienna, where he is curator, scientific speaker and head of the photo collection, working with an open concept of science and a broad concept of the curatorial.
Sophie Wagenhofer (De Gruyter Publishers/History)
Sophie Wagenhofer is a historian and museologist with a particular interest in the Middle East and North Africa. After working for five years as a research assistant at the Humboldt University in Berlin, she joined De Gruyter in 2013. She was responsible for the area of Jewish and Islamic Studies for almost ten years before taking over as head of the Department of History and Library and Information Science. Sophie is responsible for the department of German and European history.
