Henri Gil-Marchex was a French pianist and composer, a pupil of Louis Diémer and Alfred Cortot, and a friend of Maurice Ravel. He toured wildly as a pianist and visited Japan several times introducing French music. He composed some pieces influenced by Japanese culture.
