Encephalitis lead to Patricia Ellison-Brown's seizure at the top of her staircase at home. The resulting fall crushed vertebrae and punctured her lungs so severely that she would have died had it not been for her 13 year old son - who cleared her airway and immediately called 911.
Patricia was received by her own colleagues at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, where she herself is an ER doctor. "It was my dear friends who received me and I'm sure it was hard for them because I was a terrible disaster of a mess," says Patricia. "I wouldn't have looked forward to getting me."
