The stamp technique is a method to easily reproduce the accurate anatomy in your dental restoration. It is often used with dental composite, but in this video, you see that it could be even more convenient using a glass hybrid, which doesn’t have the disadvantage of polymerisation shrinkage and has a high marginal sealing ability. It is indicated when in the pre-operative situation, the enamel structure is still present. Even though it’s most convenient for Class I restorations, it can also be used for Class II.
First, the stamp is created, by applying resin barrier (also called gingival barrier or liquid rubber dam) onto the occlusal surface. It is light-cured after putting an instrument inside, that will serve as a handle (after use, the ‘stamp’ can be easily removed from the instrument again).
Thereafter, the cavity is prepared in the conventional way and all caries is removed. Then, the glass hybrid EQUIA Forte HT (GC) is applied and the stamp is pressed on top. While keeping the stamp in place, the excess is removed. After setting, the stamp can be removed from the surface and the cavity margins are checked and smoothed if needed. Next, EQUIA Forte Coat is applied to have a wear-resistant, smoot surface and to let the restoration mature to its final strength. The coating is light-cured in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
As can be seen, the end result looks very nice, with a good integration of the restoration into its surroundings. Time can be saved since rubber dam and adhesive do not have to be placed, and the stamp does not stick to the restorative material. A win-win!
