There was a lady named ‘LIWAYWAY’ who possesses incomparable beauty and loves to go to the ‘Kabayongan’ river. Because of her enchanting beauty she captured the attention of some evil creatures, reason for them to curse her.
She was controlled by the spirits; she was not on her natural gestures and actions that she can almost hurt the people around her.
During those time, quack doctors were the only access of the people to cure whatever illness they have. A quack doctor or TAMBALAN in our dialect, was able to cure Liwayway. He used a mixture of different plants called ‘HARU’, a local terminology, which means “anything therapeutic submerged in water and thus render the liquid material.”
Since then, the Salugnons believed in this legend and included this as a part of their history. Todaythe place is called JARO originated from the term ‘HARU’ and eventually, the people related this legend and practice this so called HARU TAMBALAN FESTIVAL.
Practicing this festival is one evidence how the Salugnons try to preserve and value what they had in the past. No wonder, Salugnons are true Filipinos!
