The first big snow of the year has activated a Chicagoland tradition, the open flame switch heaters at METRA's TOWER A-5 (aka WESTERN AVE) where the where the former 4-track Chicago Northwestern West line crosses the 3-track Milwaukee District to Union Station. Video was taken near the center signal bridge between the Milwaukee District crossovers and the 3x4 movable point diamond crossing.
Observed train movements included:
Amtrak Hiawatha Train 336 with P32-8BWH #518 and SC44 #4604.
Inbound METRA UP-West Line train with gallery cab car #8472 and F40PH-3 #178.
Inbound METRA UP District deadhead with F40PH-3 #184.
Outbound METRA UP-West Line train with F40PH-3 #130.
Inbound METRA UP District deadhead with gallery cab car #8401 and F40PH-2 #156.
