On Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Training by Dr Jeremy Bloomfield

The following collections of interviews were conducted over a five year period during my psychoanalytic candidacy at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis (CCP). The project began as an idea to showcase the amazing faculty from across the globe who share their knowledge with the CCP community and candidates.

The interviews began without a specific focus. Over time, with the suggestion of creating an integrated collection of interviews based around the idea of psychoanalysis and particularly psychoanalytic training, the project began to take shape and focus.


As you will see, this is my first time conducting and filming interviews, not to mention capturing footage and sound, and learning about lighting and digital editing. However, at this point having learned about the process through study, and great trial and error, I am excited to continue the project with future CCP faculty.

While traveling across the country to conduct these interviews, I learned a few lessons. I now know not to record in a 95° hotel room in Atlanta next to the a/c, and that while making use of “natural light” is a good strategy, puffy clouds change the calculus (sorry Jerry). I learned that even though video files are huge, I should create back-up, as footage can be lost or corrupted (my apologies to Frank and Marilyn. Note: Frank does exist in a non-pixilated form). Perhaps in the future I will keep from getting lost in the brilliance of my interviewees mind, only later realizing I’ve allowed us to stray far afield (Avgi, there’s a whole other piece in this). Live and learn…

Thank you to everyone who participated in this project for graciously sharing their time and their knowledge with me, and with the rest of our psychoanalytic family. It is truly a precious gift.
