The Asahi Pentax (AP) was the first recognizably-modern film SLR. The AP pioneered many of the design elements and interface features that we, today, take as granted on cameras. The innovative pentaprism, focusing screen, and automatically-returning mirror were significant breakthroughs in their time. The viewfinder, even today, is a brilliant example of simplicity and function in design. More than many, many cameras after it, the AP remains a prime example of how a camera should be engineered and built.
