Senator Risa Hontiveros raised alarm over the Government Service Insurance System’s (GSIS) alleged reckless investments, including over ₱1 billion placed in the online gambling platform DigiPlus and another ₱1.45 billion in the financially distressed firm Alternergy without proper board approvals. She emphasized that these risky ventures violate GSIS investment guidelines and jeopardize the hard-earned contributions of 2.7 million public workers relying on the fund for retirement. Hontiveros called for urgent Senate action to strengthen oversight, amend the GSIS Act if necessary, and ensure public pension funds are protected and never used for gambling or speculative investments.
