With traditional payment channels restricted and access to the global financial system limited, Russia was forced to redirect its gold exports. Gold increasingly became an alternative means of settlement, pushing Moscow to seek new routes and intermediaries to move its resources onto international markets.
The result was a fundamental shift in Russia’s gold export pathways, driven not by market demand, but by the need to bypass sanctions and sustain trade under restriction.
