Bhaktapur was one of the places I was most curious to explore in Nepal. Known for its ancient architecture and deep cultural history, the city feels like a place where time has slowed down. During my visit, I wandered through some of its most famous areas, including Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square, and the lively Pottery Square, where traditional pottery is still made by hand.
Walking through the narrow streets, temples, and courtyards, Bhaktapur truly looks like a living museum. Every corner holds centuries of history, intricate wooden carvings, and beautiful pagoda-style temples that reflect the city’s rich past.
However, the experience was a bit mixed for me. While the architecture and atmosphere were impressive, I personally realized that historical sites don’t excite me as much as I expected. It was interesting to see the heritage and culture, but I didn’t feel as connected to the historical side of the city as many travelers might.
One highlight was watching local artisans shaping clay at Pottery Square, a tradition that has existed here for generations. On the other hand, I also visited a lake nearby that, unfortunately, wasn’t very appealing and didn’t add much to the experience.
Even so, exploring Bhaktapur was still a unique glimpse into Nepal’s past and daily life. Whether you love history, architecture, or simply wandering through old cities, Bhaktapur offers a fascinating window into a world that feels centuries old.
