A shot which was high on my list to do is the one at Brotherton which is next to the decommissioned Ferrybridge power station in West Yorkshire. The former Coal and Gas power station has been out use since 2016 and since then there has been a lengthy period of demolition which has seen five out of the eight cooling towers demolished. Most recently the two chimney stacks plus the main boiler house and bunker bay were demolished on 22 August 2021.
So, what better way to tick off a location with the passing of two steam trains which passed myself within half an hour of each other through an iconic West Yorkshire landmark. Both steam excursions were heading to York on separate Christmas White Rose excursions. The locomotives of choice in today's video were two stalwart's of the LMS, with 6233 Duchess Of Sutherland on a Tyseley to York excursion and Saphos owned 46100 Royal Scot running to from Llandudno to York.
While the highlights for me are the short shots past Ferrybridge, we did manage to catch 6233 at two other locations with the penultimate shot in glorious light. 6233 is seen first departing Whitacre Jct next to Shustoke Reservoir as the locomotive begins the six mile climb to Arley Tunnel, three angles capture this. The other location which features is Burton Salmon where both locos are seen going well in perfect conditions, with plenty of other photographers close by. We're pretty happy with the end results and we can now look forward to final weekend of mainline steam operations in 2021.
I hope you enjoy the video.
