This courtroom proceeding involved two separate defendants and highlighted strict enforcement of bond conditions and the consequences of repeat criminal behavior.
In the first matter, Zane Buring appeared before the court regarding compliance with bond conditions that required him to remain drug-free while wearing a drug patch. During questioning, the court established that the patch was collected and tested every two weeks. Despite Buring’s claim that his drug levels were “going down” and his insistence that he had not knowingly used cocaine, official records showed six consecutive positive drug patch tests for cocaine, including one collected just a week prior to the hearing.
The judge firmly rejected explanations involving accidental exposure, workplace contact in a recording studio, or so-called “mystical” causes. Emphasizing that bond conditions require zero tolerance, the judge explained that illegal drug possession includes substances found inside the body. Relying on scientific evidence rather than personal assurances, the court concluded that repeated positive results could not be ignored. As a result, Buring’s $30,000 bond was revoked, and he was remanded into custody, with the judge stressing that rules apply equally to everyone.
In the second case, Mr. Orine appeared on a second-degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation in Jefferson County, Texas. The court reviewed his extensive criminal history spanning more than three decades, including multiple prior burglary convictions. The indictment alleged that he entered a residence without consent, intending to commit theft and assault.
After confirming that Mr. Orine understood the charges, potential punishment range of 2 to 20 years, and his constitutional rights, the court accepted a plea agreement. Mr. Orine voluntarily pleaded guilty in exchange for a 10-year prison sentence, with another case dismissed as part of the agreement. The court found him competent, accepted the evidence, and ordered him into custody to serve his sentence.
