Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do during an emergency. Hurricane Helene knocked power out to my home for over a week and all hardware stores within an hour drive where shut down. The interstate was shut down as well. So, I made a quick male to male plug to get by until the power came back on. Using this method will flow electricity from the generator, though a drop cord, into any 120v outlet in your home, though your homes wiring, into a breaker in the panel, and will energize one leg on the panel. Anything on that side will have power.

Some tips to keep in mind

A drop cords max amperage drops the longer the drop cord is, so shorter is better. 12 gauge can hold 20 amps, 14 gauge can hold 15 amps, 16 gauge can hold 13 amps.

Be mindful of what the max amperage is of the outlet and wiring behind it that your plugging into on the home. Some 120V outlets are rated for 15amps and some for 20 amps. You would not want to back feed a 15 amp outlet with a generator pushing 20 amps.
