The single-leg squat is one of the greatest exercises you can do to maintain health and physical function/fitness as you age. Compared to a traditional squat, performing a squat on a single leg forces you to activate the stabilizing muscles in the hip and ankle as you try and balance. These muscles are critical in performing any sort of athletic movement, as athletic movements typically are performed with one leg at a time as opposed to both.
