UNICEF Helps Children Learn Despite Crisis in Sudan

Before full-scale conflict began in April, three out of ten students were already out of school in Sudan. But now, the education crisis is expected to deepen.

At the e-learning centers, students use tablets, allowing them to learn at their own pace.

"Education is very important," says UNICEF Sudan Education Officer Azza Anwar. "It's more than learning. It's bringing the sense of hope and normality to those children. Especially those who are displaced from their home."

The self-learning centers offer children a safe space to heal, interact with peers and receive psychosocial support.

"I was staying at home without education but now I'm learning," says Shemos, a 12-year-old in White Nile State. "We learn science, English, Arabic, mathematics and technology."
