Update: How to Testify More Effectively in a Lupus Disability Claim

Описание: I have changed the way I prepare my lupus clients for disability hearings and I made this video to let you know about what is working for my clients now.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can impact multiple areas of your body. In fact the formal name for lupus is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The “systemic” nature of lupus means that it can cause pain and weakness in your arms and hands one week, and then cause discomfort in your knees and ankles the next week.

Further, the medications often prescribed can create a wide variety of side effects, including drowsiness, fatigue, poor concentration, excessive urination and sensitivity to cold.

As I discuss in this video, any or all of your symptoms, or the side effects of your medications can negatively impact your capacity to perform work. And the main question in your Social Security disability case asks whether you could be a reliable employee at even a simple, entry-level job.

I am now preparing my clients by having them practice testifying about all of the body systems impacted by lupus over the past two to three years. Sometimes it is difficult to remember how you felt last year or the year before so we look back at medical records and practice testifying about the long term impact of symptoms. I find that this extra practice has helped my clients testify more effectively and more convincingly at their hearings, and I think you’ll find the same benefit as well.
