dBase (Programming Language)
💾 dBase is an early and influential database management system (DBMS) that included its own programming language.
👨‍💻 It was originally created by Wayne Ratliff in 1979 (initially named Vulcan) and later commercialized by Ashton-Tate in the early 1980s.
📝 dBase uses an English-like, imperative programming language, allowing users to define, manipulate, and query data in relational database files (.dbf).
📈 It was instrumental in the rise of personal computing, enabling businesses and individuals to develop custom applications for data management.
🚀 Despite its eventual decline due to competition and internal issues, dBase spawned a family of "xBase" compatible languages (like Clipper, FoxPro) and profoundly influenced database development.
