Telangana SIR: 22% Voters Deleted From Electoral Rolls | Why The Big Purge? | News9

Описание: A massive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has resulted in the deletion of nearly 22 per cent of electors, making it the highest proportion recorded so far in the country, according to the data cited in the report.

Telangana had around 3.38 crore electors before the revision exercise. Nearly one in every five names has now been removed from the electoral rolls.

But the scale of the deletions is not the only issue. The reasons cited for removing voters vary sharply across constituencies.

The Election Commission broadly categorises deletions as Shifted/Permanently Shifted, Absent, Deceased and Duplicate.

In Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills, around 1.79 lakh names were deleted, with approximately 83 per cent categorised as shifted.
