Qum rugs are known to have the highest knot density of all Persian rugs. The water in the city of Qum is good for washing silk. It brines and softens the silk making the rug more beautiful. So in most cases where Persian rugs in Iran have silk material, these rugs are brought to Qum for washing.

There are 2 types of Qum rug.
1. Silk Qum Rugs - range around 700-800 KPSI
2. Cork Qum Rugs - made from baby sheep wool have a knot density of about 300 KPSI or higher

Qum rug designs include a floral, medallion, hunting, and pictorial. Soft and pastel colors are used including ivory, gold, brown, and blues as highlights.

Almost all Qum rugs have signatures.
