Learn how to properly size and select a commercial water softener in this informative video. Sizing a commercial softener involves examining two key variables: peak system flow rates and required softening capacity. To calculate peak flow rate, you'll need to determine the total softened water fixture counts for your facility and use a special chart called Hunter’s Curve to identify the corresponding peak flow requirement.
Once you have your peak GPM calculated, find a system that is large enough to supply this flow rate at an acceptable pressure loss. Then, ensure you have enough ion exchange media in the softener tank to remove all of the hardness minerals passing through. You want enough capacity to soften for 4-6 days between regenerations with saltwater from the brine tank.
Lastly, consider system options such as skid-mounted packages and Brine Reclamation for reduced salt usage and environmental benefits. Contact WCC today to get started on your commercial softening application. They can help you through all of these calculations and provide additional resources such as cut sheets, Revit families, Division 22 specification, and budgetary estimates.
