Bondi Beach Terror Attack: Indian Links Emerge, ISIS Role Confirmed

Описание: Shocking new details are emerging in the Bondi Beach terror attack in Sydney, with investigators confirming Indian links to one of the attackers even as Australia formally declares the massacre was inspired by the Islamic State.

Australian authorities have identified the attackers as a father–son duo — 50-year-old Sajid Akram and his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram. Sajid was shot dead by police at the scene, while Naveed remains hospitalised. At least 15 people were killed in the attack, and 25 victims are still in hospital, with 10 in critical condition.

Telangana Police have confirmed that Sajid Akram was originally from Hyderabad and continued to hold an Indian passport even after migrating to Australia. His brother lives in Tolichowki, where Indian officials have now visited the family and collected details as part of preliminary verification.

Police say Sajid migrated to Australia in November 1998 on a student visa after completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Hyderabad. He lived in Australia for nearly 27 years, had limited contact with his family, and last visited India in 2022. Senior officials have stressed that there is no operational or ideological link to India, and that any radicalisation occurred overseas.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the attack was inspired by the Islamic State, citing evidence including ISIS flags recovered from the attackers’ vehicle. The Prime Minister also visited hero Ahmed al-Ahmed — the bystander who tried to disarm the gunman — calling him “the best of our country.”

The attack took place during an event marking the first night of Hanukkah, making it the deadliest gun attack in Australia since 1996.
