Time to introduce the projects I have lined up for the summer. There's always a new piece of equipment in the "Garden Tractor Garage". I've been using the 210 to mow while the X570 is at the Deere dealer for warranty work (stay tuned for the upcoming 250-hour update video).
The first project on the list is a 1968 John Deere 110 square fender in really nice original condition. I got this tractor from a friend of my uncle, in exchange for repairing his Troy-Bilt riding mower that he bought for one of his rental properties. He claimed the Troy-Bilt sheared the flywheel key, but upon further inspection, it turned out to have a bad starter. Once I replaced the starter and battery, I found a whole slew of problems with the engine. I think the automatic compression release or the cam was shot, because it still wouldn't fire up after a valve adjustment, carb cleaning, and a new coil and plug. Oh well. Luckily the guy was nice enough to leave me the 110, and wanted me to bring back the Troy-Bilt for him to tinker with.
The 110 has been well-maintained and still has its original Kohler K181 engine that runs decent. I had to sand the points, put a battery and gas in it to get it started. It needs the carb cleaned and governor adjusted, and a general tune-up. It jumps out of every gear except 2nd, which means the detent springs below the shifter have broken and the transaxle needs to be taken apart to have them replaced. So I will have it all rebuilt with new seals, gaskets, and bearings while I am at it.
Back in April, Jimmy and I worked out a package deal with another friend of my uncle who was looking to get rid of a 455 and a 140 H1 he had sitting in his yard. They were both in rough shape, but we got them for a really good price. Jimmy took the 455 for a project, and I took the 140. We had been planning this deal since the winter, but didn't have any time to pick up the tractors until the spring. The 140 is rough and will most likely be parted out...you can see its condition in the video. More on that later.
I sold my JD 80 cart and picked up a much nicer 1978 model 80 cart from a local collector. I also picked up another Brinly plow and a disk, as well as a 46" mower deck that I sold a few weeks ago. Finally, I'm working on a 1978 Lawn Boy 7229 two-stroke push mower that I acquired from Jimmy...it needs a new recoil assembly and some TLC, so I am waiting for all the parts to come in before I can reassemble it and get it running again.
