This spectacular Pilot Classic ketch, with a length over deck of 46 metres, is one of two superyachts based on our designs that is built at Royal Huisman. Almost half a year of research went into the project, including extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics studies on various hull shapes. The design was ultimately put to the test at the MARIN tank testing laboratories in the Netherlands using a six-metre scale model. Wind tunnel tests were carried out at the Wolfson Unit in the UK, where various sail configurations were also tried. Last but not least, the structure of the yacht was modelled in 3D and analysed for stiffness and rigidity with Finite Element Modelling techniques.
