This Eiki 7070 CD/Cassette Tape Recorder was built in January of 2008 making it a modern cassette recorder, not vintage. The combination CD/Cassette tape recorder has been discontinued and replaced by the Eiki 8080 a similar unit that has many of the same parts. The Eiki 7070 uses a standard single CD drive with a few mysterious functions and a secret in the CD compartment cover. The tape recorder uses what has become a standard cassette drive system consisting of small gears and an electronically speed controlled motor driving the almost now ubiquitous "silver dollar" style capstan flywheel. It is rated at an amazingly low 0.17% wow and flutter.
The Eiki 7070 CD/Cassette Tape Recorder (which is often found on E-Bay) was primarily an educational device, probably to aid in language instruction. It has five stereo headphone jacks for students to listen to CDs or cassettes.
What makes the Eiki 7070 CD/Cassette Tape Recorder mysterious are:
1. It has an auxiliary input jack that is MONO, even though the unit is fully capable of STEREO play and record.
2. It is capable of PA operation, but only when PLAYING a CD or Tape. Yet, there is no indication of its PA capabilities anywhere on the case.
3. In spite of the PA capability, the machine cannot monitor input signals from the auxiliary jack.
