How do bananas link to microplastics? You might think this is a bizarre question, but not for Dr. Qasim Siddiqui.
The founder of Pakistan’s Natural Fiber Company established the country’s first banana fibre extraction and processing plant with circularity at its core. His team not only processes vast amounts of banana stem waste that they turn into natural-fibres-based products for the global market; they also offer a biodegradable alternative to the plastics found in everyday household products while generating employment in the rural areas of Sindh province.
The ecopreneur has been supported by the Youth Entrepreneurs Team of the International Trade Centre.
