Описание: Welcome to Ayuttahya the ancient capital of the Thai Kingdom and to A&A travelling. This UNESCO World Heritage Site city, was 300 years ago the largest city in the world, and a key trading hub between east and west, with over 1 million inhabitants. The city strategic location on the banks of three rivers connected to the sea, protected it from attack by sea-going warships, while enabling trade to prosper. Its wealth and importance is evident to this day, in the sheer number and size of Buddhist monasteries remaining.

In 1767 it all came to an end, when Burmese armies razed the city to the ground after a 14 month siege. Art treasures, libraries and important historic documents were all destroyed, along with the bulk of the city. All that remained were the stone palaces and monasteries, which are the defining features of Ayutthaya today.

The Burmese army left after just a few months, forced to defend their own capital against Chinese invasion. Ayutthaya was never rebuilt in the same location , a new capital was established at Thonburi instead, further down the river near modern day Bangkok.

In 1991, the Ayutthaya historicak Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The main wats(temples) don`t open until 8am, but you can still get access to the area at any time.

GETTING AROUND
It`s perfectly possible to explore many of the city best spots on foot, especially if you got a central located accomodation. Cycling is a popular way of getting around, just remember to start early because it will get hot during the day. If you`re short on time then hire a tuk tuk for a day, or jump in one to reach the temples further afield.
It`s entirely possible to visit Ayutthaya in a day trip from Bangkok, but we definitely recommend spending at least two full days here.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
Impressive complex located a little outside the city centre. There are a number of things to see, the imposing central stupa surrounded by sitting Buddhas unlike any other in Ayuttahaya. One can climb the stairs and walk around the platform halfway up. This is a unique temple to explore and not to be missed..

Wat Phra Si Sanphet
One of the most impressive and popular temples to visit in the city.

Wat Mahathat
Probably the most photographed Wat in all of Ayutthaya, thanks to its picturesque Buddha Head entwined in the roots of a Banyan Tree. The temple is centrally located and on everyone`s must-see list. Besides the famous Buddha Head, there are a number of stupas, Buddhas and buildings to explore.

Wat Phra Ram
Despite being one of the city most impressive wats, this shady complex doesn`t seem to draw quite the same crowds as the others. The tall central prang is splending with small stupas around.
The Khmer style structures are in a good state of repair and it`s a good place for sitting and relaxing on the grass.

Wat Chaiwatthanaram
Among the most beautiful and famous sites of Ayutthaya. This temple located on the banks of Chao Phraya River is a must see and very popular at sunset. Thai nationals love to come here and take pictures. One can rent traditional Thai costumes just outside the temple.

Bang Lan Road Night Food Market
Every evening from 17.00 Ayutthaya`s largest nighr market sets up on the Bang Lan Road near the Wat Mahatat. This is primarily a food market and a great place to eat afer a day at the city`s Historical Park.

Naresuan Soi 2 Rd is often referred to as "Farang Street" and one of the places to be at night time. The street features several guesthouses, restaurants, bars, tour operators and locations were you can rent bicycles.
