A tragic reminder of how Britain treated its war heroes once the fighting was over.
In 1894, an old tramp limped into Kettering Workhouse—tattered, nameless, and nearly dead. Staff knew him only as "Davies," a man lost to time… until a mysterious letter revealed the truth: he was James Edwin Dray, a veteran of the Crimean War, and a survivor of the Charge of the Light Brigade.
This gripping documentary uncovers the tragic final days of a war hero who fought at Balaclava, Alma, Inkerman, and Sevastopol, only to die in obscurity on the streets of Northamptonshire.
Thanks to one anonymous letter, he was saved from a pauper’s grave and finally buried with full military honours.
