Coed Darcy (formerly The BP Llandarcy Oil Refinery) in Wales was Britain's first crude oil refinery, established by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company between 1918-1922…. By 1960, it was the third-largest in the UK.
The plant processed Middle Eastern crude, produced PLUTO fuel in WWII, and was a major employer before closing in 1998 due to shifting industry focus to North Sea oil. The site was completely demolished throughout the 2000s, with the main site clearance completed by October 2009
Part of the site has since been redeveloped into a sustainable "urban village" even The Prince of Wales enjoyed a tour of part of the 1,060 acre development back in 2013.
A separate section of the village was built on one of the worst polluted areas of the site, this was a test to see how the buildings coped against the toxic surroundings…. Nobody has ever lived in these houses, which are now sadly slowly decaying away….
The site is undergoing a long-term, multi-billion pound transformation into a sustainable community, although, as of early 2026, development has faced delays and is considered a "work in progress.
The site is covered in 24/7 CCTV & has on site security with take it from me, are on site very quickly 😅
Come and explore this apocalyptic site with me!…
