In this video, I run a real-world experiment on brazing steel with copper filler without flux.
Two materials are tested:
plain carbon steel
galvanized steel
Despite high heat and fully melted copper filler:
plain steel instantly oxidizes and prevents wetting
galvanized steel creates the illusion of a bonded joint, but it fails immediately
⚠️ WARNING
Heating galvanized steel releases toxic zinc fumes. Perform this only outdoors or with proper ventilation.
Be careful with fire, keep fire extinguishers handy.
Conclusion:
Without flux, copper filler cannot wet steel.
No wetting means no diffusion — and no real joint.
Next video: the same test, but with proper flux.
