Konkordiaplatz nennt sich die gewaltige Eisfläche von sechs Quadratkilometern Grösse in der rund 3'800 m ü. M. gelegenen Jungfrau-Region. Hier liegt der Ursprung des Grossen Aletschgletschers (UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe). Dieser in Bezug auf die Fläche grösste und mit rund 23 km längste Gletscher der Alpen erstreckt sich auf der Südabdachung der Berner Alpen im Kanton Wallis. Am Konkordiaplatz fliessen drei mächtige Firnströme zusammen: Grosser Aletschfirn, Jungfraufirn und Grüneggfirn. Von hier aus bewegt sich der Eisstrom auf einer Breite von ca. 1,5 km und mit einer Geschwindigkeit von bis zu 180 Metern pro Jahr ins Tal.

The origin of the Great Aletsch Glacier (UNESCO World Heritage) is located at Concordia (Konkordiaplatz) in the roughly 3,800-m-high Jungfrau Region. It is the Alps' largest glacier in terms of surface area, and with a length of about 23 km also its longest. It is located at the southern slopes of the Bernese Alps in the canton of Valais. Three major firns converge at Concordia: the Great Aletschfirn, the Jungfraufirn, and the Grüneggfirn. From here, the ice stream has a width of 1.5 km and is moving to the valley at a rate of up to 180 meters per year.
