This is one of the first shareware releases I got to play back in the day, which features the original monster graphics and not the overhauled ones.

Nitemare 3D is the sequel to the Hugo series, which is a trilogy of DOS Sierra-like adventure games, a mad doctor has kidnapped your girlfriend and you enter an enchanted mansion to rescue her. Oddly enough, this 4th entry is a first person shooter. This is mostly a one-man effort (David Gray), which is quite admirable, building a competent Wolf3D engine back in the day all by yourself. I know many might consider this a classic from their childhood, but after finishing this shareware version, god knows I didn't want to take it anymore, I decided to stop and leave the registered version for a later... later time.

The game seems all right from the get go, but the more you play, the more its flaws are apparent. As a starter, I had to stop and begin again in normal instead of hard. Every non-melee monsters uses hitscan attacks that hit like a truck (even on normal, witches do 50% damage!), and most of your arsenal (but one) are projectile weapons, so enemies will be able to get cheap shots at you no matter how fast you are. To make it worse, some enemies are resistant to some specific kinds of weapons. On top of that, there are puzzles, they aren't very complicated... But you can screw it and get stuck forever, and if you manage to save your game while you are already stuck, it's game over. Again, nice effort for its time, and a non violent game at that, but it was a painful experience for me. And don't get me started with all the hidden doors, which some of them, are required to progress, of course.

Playthrough sin comentar de la versión shareware de Nitemare 3D, bajo DOSBox, enseñando todos los secretos. El nivel de dificultad usado es el normal. Nótese que es de las primeras versiones del juego, la que trae los gráficos originales de los monstruos y no los mejorados.

Nitemare 3D es la secuela de la saga Hugo, que es una trilogía de aventuras gráficas para DOS, un doctor chiflado ha secuestrado a tu novia y entras en su mansión encantada para rescatarla. Para hacerlo más raro, esta cuarta entrega es un FPS. Este juego es el trabajo de una persona mayormente (David Gray), lo cual es admirable, hacer tu propio juego, con motor tipo Wolf3D en su día. Sé que algunos lo considerarán un clásico de su infancia, pero después de haber terminado esta shareware, bien sabe Dios que no quiero saber más de él, decidí dejarlo rápidamente y dejar la versión registrada para después... mucho después.

El juego parece que bien al principio, pero cuanto más jugamos, más aparentes se hacen sus fallos. Para empezar, tuve que parar y volver a empezar en el nivel de dificultad normal en vez del difícil. Todos los monstruos que atacan a distancia, son hitscan que pegan como camiones (las brujas en normal hacen 50% de daño!), y casi todo tu arsenal (menos una) son armas de proyectiles, con lo que los enemigos podrán hacernos daño antes que nosotros, sin importar lo rápidos que seamos. Para hacerlo peor, cada enemigo es resistente a ciertos tipos de armas. Además de eso, hay puzzles, que no son muy complicados... Pero puedes cagarla y quedarte atascado para siempre, y si no has salvado o has salvado después de cagarla, pues es game over. Y no me hagais hablar de todas las puertas secretas, que por supuesto algunas de ellas son obligatorias para poder avanzar.
