Gujarat ATS Tightens Net! 5 More Held in Jaish-e-Mohammed Probe | Hari Prasad
Gujarat's Anti-Terrorism Squad has made another major breakthrough in its investigation into an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module operating in the state.
The ATS has now arrested five more suspects from Khadiyal village in Siddhpur taluka of Patan district, taking the investigation a significant step further.
According to officials, these arrests are directly linked to the eight suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed operatives who were arrested earlier this month.
The newly arrested individuals have been identified as Bilal Abidbhai Shera, Mohammad Ayub Kadiwala, Mohammad Palanpuri alias Khali Ayub Sunsara, Shafia Rais Mukhti, and Mohammad Hasan Kardia.
All five were produced before a local court, which has granted the Gujarat ATS custody until July 24 for further questioning.
So why are these arrests considered important?
According to the prosecution, investigators believe one of the accused had attempted to make a crude time bomb, although the reported test was unsuccessful.
The ATS has informed the court that it is still searching for bomb-making materials, alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed-related literature written in Urdu, and other evidence that could help uncover the full extent of the suspected network.
Investigators are also trying to determine where the materials were obtained, where they were hidden, and whether more people were involved.
The prosecution further claimed that one of the suspects arrested earlier allegedly supplied JeM-related material to the newly arrested accused, while another individual was familiar with bomb-making techniques.
Officials are now examining whether these individuals were part of a larger support network and whether there were plans to expand the alleged terror module within Gujarat.
This investigation began on July 3, when the Gujarat ATS arrested eight suspected members of the banned Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed from different parts of Gujarat and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh.
At that time, investigators alleged that the group was attempting to establish an active terror network inside Gujarat.
With these latest arrests, the focus of the investigation has shifted toward identifying possible links, funding sources, communication channels, and whether additional suspects remain at large.
It is important to remember that while serious allegations have been made, the investigation is still ongoing, and the accused will face the judicial process before any determination of guilt is made by the courts.
The coming days are expected to reveal whether the ATS uncovers further evidence or makes additional arrests.
