Propaganda, misinformation and fake news have the potential to polarise public opinion, promote violent extremism and hate speech and, ultimately, undermine democracies and reduce trust in the democratic processes.

Propaganda is everywhere and so is fake news. Propaganda is the dissemination of information with the purpose to influence or manipulate its recipients. Fake news, on the other hand, is propaganda that’s been made to look like news. In this video, we explain how anyone can deceive and manipulate you with fake news and propaganda.

It is vital for schools to provide students with a solid education on media and information literacy as part of the curriculum.

Teachers must be well-trained in the subject to empower students with the necessary competencies to critically understand and assess information reported by all forms of media.
