💰 Mastering Money in Georgia: Best ATMs, Currency Exchange & Debit/Credit Card Tips! 💳
In this video, I'll guide you through everything you need to know about managing your money in Georgia. From understanding the local currency to the best ATMs, and where to exchange money, to choosing the right debit/credit card, I've got you covered! 🌍
💵 Georgian Lari (GEL): The currency used in Georgia.
💳 Three Ways to Pay in Georgia:
1. 💵 Cash Exchange: Bring USD or Euros and exchange them at local currency exchange shops.
2. 🏧 ATM Withdrawals: Use your debit/credit card to withdraw cash.
3. 💳 Card Payments: Use a debit/credit card with low/zero forex markup fees for payments. Note: Some places don’t accept cards, so having some cash is advisable.
💱 Currency Exchange:
INR to GEL exchange is rare. It's best to carry USD or Euros.
📍 Where to Exchange: Many currency exchange shops are available, with the Freedom Square area offering good rates. Conexus Crypto is recommended. Map Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/USYQqiYEH75iX...
👍 Personal Experience: Exchanged 40 AZN (Azerbaijani Manats) for 60 GEL on Conexus, which was a better rate than other shops.
🏧 ATM Withdrawals:
💡 Tip: Use cards with low/zero forex markup and international ATM withdrawal charges.
🏦 Bank ATMs and Fees:
Basisbank: Unable to withdraw after multiple attempts.
Bank of Georgia: 3 GEL fee for 300 GEL withdrawal.
TBC: 5 GEL fee for 300 GEL withdrawal.
Liberty Bank: Highest fee at 7.5 GEL for 300 GEL withdrawal. Avoid this one.
Cartu Bank: Zero withdrawal charges. Cartu Bank ATM Locations: https://www.cartubank.ge/index.php?m=...
👍 Personal Experience: Used Niyo IDFC debit card with zero international ATM usage fees on Cartu Bank ATM.
💳 Best Debit/Credit Cards for Payments:
Use cards with zero or low forex markup fees.
👍 Personal Experience: Used Niyo SBM credit card.
🚇 Bonus Tip:
NFC cards work on public transport but charge 1.5 GEL per trip instead of 1 GEL (Metromoney card rate). Full-day passes aren't available on regular debit/credit cards. Use Metromoney or day pass cards for better rates. Watch my detailed video on Metromoney and day pass cards.
I have the following Niyo and IDFC debit/credit cards which offer zero forex markup fees.
Niyo IDFC Debit Card: Zero international ATM withdrawal charge.
IDFC Wow Credit Card: 199 + GST per withdrawal.
Niyo Equitas Debit Card: 499 per withdrawal.
Niyo DCB Debit Card: 425 + GST per withdrawal.
Niyo SBM Debit Card: 423 + GST per withdrawal (Note: Service resumed after RBI regulations).
Niyo SBM Credit Card: 423 or 2.5% of the amount withdrawn, whichever is higher + GST.
