The presentation looks at the wider picture of mapping retranslations in Finland from a synchronic and diachronic perspective, taking in classics but also books that are now forgotten; studying linguistic changes, revision, time lapses between different retranslations; (re)translator figures and the most commonly attributed reasons for retranslating.
Outi Paloposki is professor of English at the University of Turku (Finland), Department of Languages and Translation Studies. Her research interests include retranslations, non-fiction translation, translators and their agency, translating and writing practices, translation criticism and the linguistic profiles and role of translations in Finland. She has written extensively on retranslations together with Prof. Kaisa Koskinen from the University of Tampere, Finland.
