Now that I explained how the 4.0.0 Splatfests work, I can now talk about my choice of weapon. Honestly, I was doing something quite risky by choosing this for my weapon of choice for this Splatfest, as I'm not very good with Chargers. However, I noticed that the only Charger I've ever used in a Splatfest was the Bamboozler 14 Mk I for Team Sci-Fi, so I figured it's time I use another one.
This is part of the Kensa Collection, a series of weapons given an artistic touch by the reclusive fashionista Toni Kensa. They function identically to their basic weapons in each class, but not only are they given the black-and-white Toni Kensa touch (with a bright red clothespin on each such weapon), but they're also given alternate sub and special weapons. Functionally, they are very similar to Splatoon 1's Sheldon's Picks, though without quite as many of them, I guess.
The Kensa Charger's main weapon is exactly the same as the basic Splat Charger. Hold down the trigger button, and when you let go, it will shoot out one single straight line of ink. When fully charged, it will splat any opponents caught in it in one hit, and it can do so at quite the long range. The biggest downside is that there's a laser that identifies a Charger is present, and when fully charged, the Charger user will glow and stick out like a sore thumb. This makes it very difficult to actually nail somebody with it, which makes Chargers a very tough weapon class to use, despite how many of them there are, due to how splatting is the focus for every single one of them (with the possible exception of the support-focused Classic Squiffer).
Except for the Bamboozlers and Goo Tubers, Chargers are intended to be used while on a hard-to-reach, high-up area, where you'd control the space below and shoot at any opponents who pass by. Regardless of which one you choose, you should have at least three to switch between depending on how much ground your team has and if your opponents have figured out where you are. Chargers, however, can also be used on the ground where you fight on even elevation with your targets. This is harder, but I use this approach because it allows me to contribute to inking and adapt to changing situations more readily.
The Kensa Charger has Sprinklers and the Baller. This is the only version of the Splat Charger without bombs and has the shortest-range Special Weapon, making this one arguably the toughest of the three of them to use. However, it's also the only one able to defend its user if someone reaches melee range via the Baller--bear in mind, though, that the Baller needs a bit of time to appear around you, time that the opponent might need to splat you. The Sprinkler, meanwhile, has the obvious use of inking ground whereyou can't otherwise reach, guarding very narrow spaces, and as a weak shield, but I also like to use the Sprinkler as a decoy, putting them in places where an opponent might think someone is there.
As a splat-focused weapon, a well-practiced Kensa Charger user is a terrifying sight in Ranked. They can defend their teammates by eliminating, or at least scaring away foes, and unlike most other Chargers, they can then close in when the time is right using the Baller, and this is something they can do in any mode. They can even ride on the Tower if a Baller is ready.
Match #5
Wahoo World
Splatfest Turf War
Kensa Charger
Color Scheme: Mouthwash
Song: "Muck Warfare" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Squid Syndicate (Bad Guys)
Don't worry, skiller is not someone who got disconnected. He just happened to get goose eggs at the end there. Also, as I play an inking role with this thing, it might surprise my teammates when they discover I've out-inked them with a Charger.
Match #6
Shifty Station
Splatfest Turf War
Kensa Charger
Color Scheme: Rusty Nails
Song: "Ebb & Flow" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Squid Mob (Bad Guys)
Fighting a syndicate, then a mob? What are we now, the FBI? (I think D.Va and McCree are in the wrong game.)
Match #7
Goby Arena
Splatfest Turf War
Kensa Charger
Color Scheme: Rusty Nails
Song: "Ebb & Flow" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Lady Warriors (Good Guys), The Squid Squad (Bad Guys)
Now a squad, eh? Is it me, or have there not been many Octolings lately? (A HUGE problem I encountered among Team Modern was a tendency to migrate to the opposing side where they ineffectually inking. Maybe they're building Clout, I don't know. But you get 1,000 extra points for winning.)
Match #8
Moray Towers
Splatfest Turf War
Kensa Charger
Color Scheme: Rusty Nails
Song: "Ebb & Flow" by Off the Hook
Titles: (none)
Not my best match in Moray Towers, especially as I was using a Charger on it, but it was the only one I got from this Splatfest.
And here are the results:
Votes - Retro 31.17%, Modern 68.83%
Normal Clout - Retro 48.77%, Modern 51.23%
Pro Clout - Retro 48. 21%, Modern 51.79%
And for the first time in some time, at least from the Americas, Marina wins a Splatfest, and an even rarer clean sweep.
