The Migrant and Refugee Children in the Americas Side Event was held on June 23 within the framework of the 53rd Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS). During the event, the adoption of the Declaration for the Protection and Integration of Migrant and Refugee Children and Adolescents in the Americas was announced.
The event featured a keynote address by Michelle Bachelet, former president of Chile, and speakers included Elizabeth Taylor Jay, vice minister of multilateral affairs of Colombia; Tomás Pascual, head of the human rights division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile; Garry Conille, UNICEF regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Wendy Young, president of the Kids In Need of Defense (KIND) Foundation.
The side event was a joint initiative of the Permanent Missions of Colombia and Chile, together with the Inter-American Dialogue and the Organization of American States.
