INTRODUCTION

The word "Trigonometry' is derived from the Greek words: (i) Tri means Three (ii) Gon means Side(Gonia means angle also) (iii) Metron means measurement.
The word trigonon means a triangle and the word metron means a measure. Hence trigonometry means the science of measuring triangles.
Angle - A space is formed between two ray is called angle.
The revolving ray is called the generating line of the angle. The initial position OA is called the initial side and the final position OB is called the terminal side of the angle.

MEASURE OF AN ANGLE the terminal side.The measure of an angle is the amount of rotation from the initial side to the terminal side.

TRIGONOMETRIC RATIOS

The most important task of trigonometry is to find the remaining sides and angles of a triangle when some of its sides and angles are given. This problem is solved by using some ratios of the sides of a triangle with respect to its acute angles. These ratios of acute angles are called trigonometric ratios of angles.
Before the advent of the trigonometric, we used the Pythagoras' Theorem if two sides out of three side is given. You guys could have taken out a side. But when this a problem arose that if I have only one side and only one acute angle is given , then trigonometric ratios were used and gradually improvements in trigonometry started . In this way, if trigonometry is seen in a way, then we can use trigonometric ratios.

We define six Trigonometric ratios:
(i) SineA( SinA) =Perpendicular/Hypotenuse =P/h
(ii) CosineA(CosA) =Base/Hypotenuse=b/h
(iii) TangentA(tanA) =Perpendicular/Base=p/b
(iv)CosecantA(cosecA) =Hypotenuse/perpendicular=h/p
(v)SecantA(SecA) =Hypotenuse/base=h/b
(vi)CotangentA(cotA) =Base/Perpendicular=b/p
1.SinA is reciprocal of cosecA.
2. CosA is reciprocal of SecA.
3.TanA is reciprocal of CotA.
