মায়া সভ্যতার অন্যতম কেন্দ্রবিন্দু হিসেবে বিখ্যাত মধ্য আমেরিকার এই দেশটি। হন্ডুরাস প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের দেশ হিসেবেও পরিচিত। ১৯৯৮ সালে দেশটির ৭০ শতাংশ অবকাঠামো হারিকেন মিচের আঘাতে ধ্বংস হয়ে যায়। তারপর থেকেই অর্থনৈতিকভাবে মধ্যম আয়ের দেশ হন্ডুরাস। দেশটির অর্থনীতি প্রাথমিকভাবে কৃষিখাতের ওপর নির্ভরশীল। এছাড়া অতীতে স্প্যানিশ উপনিবেশের অধীনে থাকার কারণে দেশটির সংস্কৃতিতে স্প্যানিশ সংস্কৃতিরও মিশেল ঘটেছে।
