Symposium – This workshop is targeted at new professionals working within healthcare settings and is a skill building session on evidence based behavioral counseling strategies and techniques for promoting physical activity initiation and maintenance. The goals of this didactic and interactive workshop are to: (1) review the evidence for the impact of exercise testing, training, and behavioral counseling on changing physical activity; (2) identify relevant behavioral counseling concepts and techniques for increasing physical activity among patients in different healthcare settings; (3) practice several counseling skills in interactive role plays; and (4) develop and receive feedback on a practical plan to implement these counseling skills in healthcare practice. This workshop represents a collaboration between the American College of Sports Medicine and the Society for Behavioral Medicine.
