Already a much respected musician, 1998 saw a departure for Julian Cope: the publication of "The Modern Antiquarian", a 448-page book detailing stone circles and other ancient monuments of prehistoric Britain.
The book was widely acclaimed. The Times called it: "A ripping good read...it is deeply impressive...ancient history: the new rock 'n' roll." The Independent said: "A unique blend of information, observation, personal experience and opinion which is as unlike the normal run of archaeology books as you can imagine." "The Modern Antiquarian" was made as a pilot for a proposed TV series based on the book. Written and presented by Julian himself, it was produced by critically acclaimed Icon Films and directed by John Booth.
