This was one of the more exciting finishes at the 2023 National Champs.
With less than a minute to go, Craig McDonald won his 7th National Title.
He won his first Title in 1976 which gives some context to how special this was for him against far younger and more fancied opponents.
Despite a low wave count due to the dropping tide and fast-rising swell, Craig hung tough and a wave miraculously appeared as enthusiastically described by LRBC cameraman/coach Zen Wallis. Well done Craig.
