Mistakes Are Inevitable - Love In Action Chapter 29

Because of our imperfect humanity, mistakes are inevitable.
We might be doing our best for someone close to us and find that, despite our loving intentions, we have failed to meet their needs, or even worse have hurt them.

Speaking from experience, I can say that this feels horrible. However, we all have our own baggage, wounds and blind spots that can undermine our relationships, and we are not in control of how people respond to us.

Sometimes there is no apparent way to reconcile conflict, to heal misunderstandings. In these times, the best we can do is to:
• act with loving kindness
• realize that not everyone will recognize our good intentions
• accept that we will make mistakes and do our best to learn from them
• correct our mistakes when possible
• find whatever help may be available to support reconciliation
• recognize that we each have our own work to do, and that painful interactions may lead to growth and healing for all concerned
• keep in mind that our lives and struggles are held and supported by an awakening Love that is bigger than any person, and trust that this Love will eventually heal all suffering.

My own practice of love in action is imperfect and I stumble more often than I like. I imagine it's like that for you, too. It's ok to stumble, and important to get back up and try again.
