Week One: You’re Writing a Story—Whether You Mean To or Not

“This isn’t where I thought I’d be…”

January has a funny way of doing this to us. The decorations are down, the calendar is fresh, and suddenly you’re staring at your life thinking, “This is not where I thought I’d be by now.” Not in a dramatic, life-is-on-fire way. Just… quietly. You didn’t plan to feel this tired, this busy, this stuck, or this unsure. It just kind of happened—one small decision, one busy season, one “I’ll deal with it later” at a time.

Here’s the strange truth most of us don’t talk about: every life is already telling a story. Even when we’re on autopilot. Especially then. And if we’re not paying attention to the direction we’re heading, drift is more than happy to take the wheel. (Drift has excellent confidence and zero concern for where you actually want to end up.)

This Sunday at Journey’s Crossing, we’re kicking off a brand-new series called Write a Better Story, and Week One is all about waking up to the story you’re already living. Not with guilt. Not with pressure. Not with “try harder and fix everything.” Just honesty, clarity, and hope. We’ll talk about why so many good people end up in places they never meant to be, why awareness is more powerful than willpower, and why God isn’t waiting for you to be impressive—just honest and willing to take a next step.
