Aiyar made his remarks at the inauguration of the LDF’s Vision 2031 conference in Thiruvananthapuram, which Congress had boycotted. He praised the Marxist government for working in Gandhiji’s direction, lamented Congress’s absence, and controversially declared that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan could return for a third term.

He also urged Vijayan to carry forward Panchayati Raj reforms, criticizing Congress for “dropping the baton on decentralisation.”

The BJP reacted sharply, with Shehzad Poonawalla weighing in on Aiyar’s remarks, highlighting the political fallout.

This controversy deepens the discomfort within Congress in Kerala and fuels the LDF’s ‘Pinarayi 3.0’ narrative ahead of upcoming elections.
