The Zug Bug is a wonderful cased caddis nymph that fortunately resembles all sorts of other things fish like to eat. It has been around for at least 40 years (that I know of) and I have been fishing it for trout as well as panfish and bass for over 20 years. It is a simple fly that is quick to learn and in no time you can have a dozen or so ready for your fly box. One of the great things about this fly is that even if it turns out messy at the vise the fish will still love it. -- Enjoy
I mentioned additional information about wrapping in peacock herl in the video. There is a great video by Tighline Productions on the Renegade dry fly where Tim Flagler goes into detail about how to tie in the peacock herl so that you get a nice full body ( • Renegade ). I found that if you are taking the herl off of a feather it is just as easy to match the herl up as I did in the video. However, if you are selecting herl from a strung package then Tim's information will help you get better results.
