Senior Trump administration officials attempt to clarify ‘clean out’ Gaza comments

Описание: During a press briefing in Washington on Tuesday, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff attempted to clarify US President Donald Trump’s remarks on “cleaning out” Gaza, saying that he means to make Gaza more “habitable”.

Trump said in late January that he would like to “clean out that whole thing”, referring to the Gaza Strip, and added that he wanted to have Egypt and Jordan take in over 1.5 million displaced Palestinians from Gaza.

Waltz said that the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip would take 10 to 15 years due to what he says are “thousands of unexploded ordinances” in Gaza, adding that Trump is looking at it from a “humanitarian standpoint”.

Witkoff added that it was “preposterous” and “unfair” to have told Palestinians that they might return to Gaza in five years.
